Life as an artist is about constant learning and evolving. This year marks 20 years of my journey as a painter, and with that milestone, I felt called to try something new. This is the first time I’ve painted a protea. It actually began as a pink rose, but as I worked, I allowed the process to guide me — and the rose transformed into a Pink Ice Protea.
I’ve always been captivated by the protea’s life cycle — from its raw, sculptural strength to the fragile elegance of its wilting phase. There’s something timeless in its presence. Protea are named after Proteus, the ancient Greek sea god known for his shape-shifting nature, and that mythic quality resonates deeply with me.
Set beneath a glowing moon and framed by a shimmering silver-leaf landscape, this protea holds space for transformation, endurance, and beauty born from change. It truly came… from the heart.
